GS Families,
On December 28, 2024, Platte County School District #2's student information system, PowerSchool, became aware of a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain teacher and staff information across multiple districts around the world. This was reported to affected school districts yesterday afternoon, January 8, 2025. Platte County School District #2 has confirmed that the district was impacted by this. Please know that our internal infrastructure was not breached, nor was it a target. This breach was all internal to PowerSchool.
PowerSchool has confirmed that the stolen data primarily contains contact details such as staff/student names, staff/student emails, addresses, staff/parent phone numbers.
In a webinar today, PowerSchool confirmed that no malware was deployed and there is no ongoing malicious activity in the PowerSchool environment. They further stated that they do not anticipate data being shared or made public and they believe the data was deleted without any further replication or dissemination.
We apologize for this unfortunate situation. We will provide you any updated information when it becomes available to us. We do encourage you to be diligent in monitoring your information and or increase spam email and phone calls. Curtis Cook, Technology Director, will be continuing to closely monitor further need, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have further questions.
Thank you.
My Best,
Lisa Weigel, Superintendent of Schools, Platte County School School District #2
