Special education refers to a range of services that can be provided in different ways and in different settings.  There is no “one size fits all” approach to special education. It’s tailored to meet each student’s needs. The primary purpose of special education is to ensure that exceptional children develop mentally, physically, socially and emotionally.

At PCSD #2, we provide special education services within resource rooms as well as regular classrooms. Services are provided for students with educational disabilities in full compliance with regulations and requirements of the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) and the federal mandates as outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Extended Wyoming Content and Performance Standards

The Extended Wyoming Content and Performance Standards define the essential knowledge and skills that allow students with the most significant cognitive disabilities to achieve high academic expectations and to access the general academic curriculum. The Extended Standards are linked to the grade-level Wyoming Content and Performance Standards. Teachers ensure that students achieve mastery by using a wide range of instructional strategies, assistive technology, and other accommodations based on a student’s individual learning characteristics and present levels of performance.Each student’s team will determine at the annual IEP meeting if the student will be evaluated using the alternative test consisting of the extended standards.
